Well I thought maybe the weekend was going to turn into a bust...I had to skip Friday because of work, and then Saturday's judge was not only the grumpiest person I've ever seen, but he pretty much picked everything I *wouldn't* have chosen out of the ring (Leo was reserve). Thank goodness today ended on a high note, and Leo was Winners Dog and Best of Winners for his last 2 points! There was only a single point in males, so he had to cross over to the girls to get the 2 that he needed. Now, I have no more laments about him being "stuck" on unlucky 13. :o) And Leo is now a champion, provided that the AKC agrees with my arithmetic.
A great weekend...and it would have been even if Leo hadn't won, honestly. Many, many margaritas were consumed and we all had a good time. My only wish for the weekend is that my friend Janet had gotten some points on her very lovely, yet often overlooked, sable bitch. :( I hate to see a newbie get frustrated, and she has a nice dog!

Just a picture
Why must work get in the way?
Today I am bitter, because my friends are leaving for a dog show today and I must wait. Because work is sucking some major ass at the moment, so remarkably they're not thrilled with the idea of me taking YET ANOTHER day off. I mean, I *am* a contractor, so I don't get paid for time that I am not here, but still. I guess it will be nice to get an actual, full week's pay for once.
So I am skipping the show that I entered tomorrow which would have given Leo a chance to finish under a breeder-judge. Oh well, breeder-judges don't like him much anyway, so it was probably an outside chance anyway. Instead I will wake up at the buttcrack of dawn on Saturday and drive myself over to Atlanta (3 hours or so, for those who may live on the other side of the country and have NO EARTHLY IDEA where Huntsville Alabama might be).

Beach Bum in the making

Back from vacation, and in my mail was...
Leo's win picture from Atlanta 3 weeks ago. One of them, at least, no idea why I didn't get both at the same time. (scratching head) Anywho...it's not too bad. Wish his rear was stacked at least CLOSE to right, this photographer was really rushing us all and I apparently did a really poor job. Lovely topline, eh? (not)

Everyone says she's so well behaved
If they only knew my secret...

OK OK, just so you don't all call CPS on my ass, here are the pictures of her climbing in there of her own free will.

We're leaving for a week's vacation tomorrow. Packing for a large trip ALWAYS makes me want to pull my hair out, because though I love Dave he DRIVES ME BATTY SOMETIMES! This is always one of those times, because he gets so freaking concerned that we're going to forget something. Me...I pretty much figure that as long as we've got the kid (check), the car (check), our wallet/purse (check), birth control (CHECK), and a few clothes to get by...we'll pretty much be OK, y'know? There is a Wal-Mart somewhere if we forget the damned toothbrushes.
And we've already packed the case of wine, the beer, and the bottles of Jack Daniels in the car, so apparently we're going to be joining Mandy in the ranks of the boozers this week. We're vacationing with Dave's whole family, by the way...his parents, his two sisters and their husbands and kids. Three children under the age of 2, yippee! Should be...umm...interesting.

Are other dogs more normal than this?
Do you ever wonder that? It has been forever since I've owned another breed of dog, and I often find myself wondering if they're all this nutso. I mean, nuts in a GOOD way, of course. They have such a highly-tuned sense of play, and I've never seen other dogs with the same "games" that Cardis have.
Leo is playing hide-n-seek from underneath our TV stand. The shelf is about 8 inches tall, I'm amazed he can still squish himself under there at high speeds. Brady doesn't care, he just grabs a mouthful of neck fur/skin and pulls Leo out like a squealing pig.

I guess we don't get a day
At least not this weekend. Only fair I guess, since we had two "days" last weekend.
Today the weather turned drop-dead gorgeous...70's, sunny, breezy. Sigh, I hated to drive back to Alabama where it was nearly 90. Blech. Heidi's bitch Jenna took WB today for a 3 point major, so today was Heidi's day again. No fair. LOL

STILL cold and rainy
and a crappy day in the ring to boot. Some idiot had left their hugemungous rottweiler crated RIGHT next to the side of the cardi ring, right where we lined up. Said rottie would burst out with an ear-splitting "baaawooowooowoowoo!" every 30 seconds or so, very suddenly and accompanied by scratching at his crate. Now Leo loves everyone, but it was unnerving and was really cranking him up in the ring, so I had a hard time keeping his attention. WHY must people do that?
Anywho, we pretty much got dumped. There were only 2 males entered in sweepstakes, and BISweeps went to my friend's pretty sable girl, and BOSweeps went to the OTHER boy. Then in regular classes there were only 3 males entered, and Leo got Reserve. Yesterday was Heidi's day, winning BOB with her 9 month old girl. Today was Janet's day, she won Best in Sweeps, Reserve winner's bitch to a major, and her other boy Spencer got his first CD leg. Go Janet! So perhaps tomorrow will be our day, LOL.

Mmmm...cold and rainy
Nothing says "dog show" like a cold and misty afternoon. At first it felt really good...we've had SO much hot weather in Alabama that a day in the 60's was a welcome relief. At first. Then it got pretty, well...cold and rainy. No lightening though, so the show goes on.
Today Leo was the only dog entry, so he needed to go BOW to get the 2 bitch points. He didn't manage to do that...but he DID go Best of Opposite over the male special to squeak out a single point. Our good friend went WB, BOW, and BOB with her 8 month old puppy girl...and this was her first show! Yay for Heidi and Jenna.
I should have brought warmer clothes. Brr.
